Community Connections
WESLI has been an active member of the Madison community since 1981. Over the years, we have worked with community partners to provide experiences for both students and organizations. These connections play a vital role for students and our local community.
Volunteering in Madison, Wisconsin
Students can choose to volunteer in the local community to improve their English and experience the local culture. This exposure to the needs and operational styles of local companies or organizations creates a deeper understanding of American culture and language.
Community members can also volunteer with WESLI as Conversation Partners and other roles throughout the year. This bridge to the community creates an exchange of experiences between students and the locals.

Experience the Madison Community
WESLI students are immersed in the local culture - in and out of the classroom. Classes occasionally take field trips to better understand topics and some instructors assign community activities that integrate into homework.
Outside the classroom, there are many opportunities to experience and integrate into the local culture. Students often volunteer at downtown community events sharing their own language and culture with locals. There are many typical activities of locals, and through WESLI activities, students can experience them, too - with a little help from a new friend!

High Schools & Universities
WESLI partners with local high schools and universities to create immersive experiences and smooth transitions to a student’s next institution. Participants on WESLI's junior programs visit local high schools to shadow American students and share their culture in classes. Local universities provide tours to our interested students, and university staff work with WESLI staff to help students advance to higher education and enroll in the institution of their choice.

Businesses & Community Organizations
WESLI continually works with local businesses in providing English services and partnerships for immersive student experiences across industries such as hotels and hospitality, construction, law, retail, and other fields.
Charity and non-profit organizations are a foundation of the Madison community, and WESLI partners with these organizations to provide win-win opportunities for students and organizations. Students often volunteer at these establishments, contributing their time and talent to support local communities. There is no better way to immerse yourself in a new world than by becoming a true part of the community!
